Second guess: I mark a timeframe by clicking the left mouse button, dragging it horizontally while keeping it clicked, like in an audio editor. Bingo. I also highly appreciate that the y axis zoom is adjusted automatically! And clicking for a bit longer on the canvas seems to reset the zoom.
