Summary: Konqueror erroneously identified at a script and
denied access to Wikipedia.
Product: Wikimedia
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: major
Priority: Normal
Component: General/Unknown
AssignedTo: [email protected]
ReportedBy: [email protected]
I am using Konqueror 3.5.10 a my main web browser on Kubuntu 8.04.4 (Hardy). As
of recently, whenever I try to follow a link to Wikipedia (examples:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ordinal or en.wikipedia.org/wiki/core_duo) I get a screen
that is blank except for the following message:
"Scripts should use an informative User-Agent string with contact information,
or they may be IP-blocked without notice."
Talk about user-hostile. I don't expect the world to support conqueror, but at
least don't deliberately block it. And maybe rephrase the error message to be
more informative and less confrontational?
PS: It gets weirder. I just followed a link to en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_agent
and that worked. What the? This bug is specific to only certain search terms?!
