--- Comment #1 from Yuvi Panda <[email protected]> ---
(This is the same on the Android app, and I think I picked the verbiage...)

This refers to EventLogging. Pains have been taken to make people as anonymous
as possible. It collects:

1. Session tracking information, so we can see how many pages people view in a
session.
2. Edit funnel tracking, to see how people go through the edit workflow.
3. ToC tracking (Android only) to see how people use the ToC
4. Login/Create account funnel tracking.
5. Saved page tracking. Note that this does not track which saved pages you are
viewing/saving.
6. Tracking of HTTPS errors, primarily to check on the censorship situation in
China.
7. (Sampled) log of the operator your phone is on. There was a wikimedia-l
discussion about it, IIRC.

https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3APrefixIndex&prefix=MobileWikiApp&namespace=470
has the full list of the Schemas we use for tracking.

Might change in the future. Your username is only recorded in the edit funnel,
along with the revid if your page is saved. I've also tried to minimize
possibilities of corelating the various events to form a more complete picture
by using different randomly generated unique IDs.

And no, if you opt out, it is not retroactive.
