To reproduce:
-Open Safari (I used v7.0.3) and go to
http://en.wikipedia.beta.wmflabs.org/w/index.php?title=Special:UserLogin&returnto=Main+Page&type=signup
-Fill in required fields and 'Create your account'
-observe that the url is
https://en.wikipedia.beta.wmflabs.org/w/index.php?title=Main_Page&gettingStartedReturn=true
and server connection is lost
Account creation works fine in Chrome, haven't tested other browsers.
On a related note, please feel free to nuke the following wmflabs accounts that
were created in the course of my troubleshooting:
