--- Comment #3 from Quiddity <[email protected]> ---
The purpose of the highlight is to help the user see: A) where they posted
something, B) where they were mentioned.

The addition of a default highlight, is also meant to partially compensate for
the removal of custom signatures. (Which some people use very bright variations
of, so that they can find their own posts on long talkpages, just by visual
scanning.)
The Flow FAQ currently says, "Your own posts will be visually highlighted to be
more easily findable."

However, the *way* we highlight someone's username (and/or posts), is totally
up for discussion. :) The subtle blue background was better than nothing
though, and there were no objections for the many months we had it, and it
might be worth re-implementing that whilst firmer options are brainstormed? I
do agree with the hesitation around accessibility, but it does pass the
snook.ca contrast check, and seems at-a-glance-acceptable when run through

(Sidenote: Personally, I use the "Highlight my name" userscript, which also
functions in history/log/etc pages.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Ais523/highlightmyname2 and I would love to
see that eventually get integrated into core... Possibly that's another
longer-term option?)
