I don't understand what you're saying -- if the way to interpret a legally
binding contract correctly isn't a "real legal issue," then what is?

I think it is a legal requirement -- and even if I'm wrong, it's certainly a
core Wikimedia value -- to clearly communicate who the copyright holder (often
not the uploader) is. The current version simply puts a bunch of confusing,
jargony gibberish below the photo, like:

CC-BY-SA-2.0    [Details]

What is a reader supposed to make of that? What do they learn from it? Has
ANYTHING meaningful been communicated?
