Bug ID: 70220
Summary: German Eszett (ß) should, when used alone, redirect to
'SS', not 'S'
Product: MediaWiki
Version: unspecified
Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: Unprioritized
Component: Internationalization

The standard German orthography dictates that the digraph to be used for the
Eszett, in case technical restrictions do not allow its use, is "ss".
MediaWiki's current code redirects a lone Eszett to "S", not "SS".
I propose that, as a result of this bug report, MediaWiki's code be changed to
redirect an Eszett to "SS". (This has nothing to do with the secret police
force of the Nazis.)
