All questions you have placed are understandable. But unfortunately I can not
answer all because I am not a developer, like you, then I can only advise you. 
I propose placing a checkbox next to the simple edit link of the section and
also propose putting a link to edit the selected sections to the top, perhaps
making the "Edit" button a drop down menu that includes all options to edit a
page. As for the edit screen look I propose you to maintain the current editing
window, but by all sections appear in the window previously selected to edit
and save them all at the same time. These are my suggestions.
