            Bug ID: 72006
Summary: VisualEditor: New and changed citations display with
blank lines before and after the citation in
<references />, if using citation templates
           Product: VisualEditor
           Version: unspecified
          Hardware: All
                OS: All
            Status: NEW
          Severity: minor
          Priority: Unprioritized
         Component: General
          Assignee: [email protected]
          Reporter: [email protected]
                CC: [email protected], [email protected],
                    [email protected]
       Web browser: ---
   Mobile Platform: ---

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open a page containing the <references /> block (so you can see what
happens as you change citations).

2. Create a new citation or edit an existing one, using a citation template
(e.g., Cite web) in the Cite menu.

3. See a blank line displayed before and after the citation.

This can be reproduced in Safari 6.2 and Firefox 32 on Mac OS 10.8.5. It
happens with Marielle's script for Citoid and with manually completed citation
templates. cannot be reproduced by adding text to the Basic citation dialog
(although it can be reproduced by using the Cite menu within the Basic citation
dialog).

This is a display-only problem. When the page is saved, everything is normal
(e.g., https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?diff=629488479&oldid=629487984).
