It would make it easier for third parties to use, yes, but that isn't the
point.  It would be easier to maintain and less "scary" for people to work on.

Maybe there is a limit to how much the parser can be isolated from MediaWiki,
maybe it isn't 100% achievable, but achieving this isn't an ivory tower goal,
the point isn't simply "architectural cleanliness", but something far more
pragmatic: maintainability.
