Currently the only way to enter a date is by choosing one from the calendar
pop-up, and it is very difficult and time consuming to select dates prior to
2001. In addition, it is not possible to enter dates where the day or month are
unknown. If we are going to support third-party uploads, we should allow the
user to enter dates manually if they need to. For example: "1908-02-23" or
"circa 1823".
