I think that by restarting the http server between accesses to each version, the CACHE_ACCEL should get cleared, but it may depend on the actual accelerator used / how it is configured. Another new feature in 1.17 is the ResourceLoader. On the first visit you will get a lot of minified javascript, just that may give you a difference when looking at the client. You may want to do another test with CSS and JS disabled. I look forward to your results.
