The "upgrade" to the new Etherpad apparently reset the default text that
appears on any new pad.
I don't exactly recall what was in the previous default text, but in any case
it should also contain a reminder to reference the new pad in the table of
contents.
According to some quick googling, the file to edit is:
etherpad/src/templates/misc/pad_default.ejs
I propose the following text:

Welcome to Wikimedia's etherpad.
This pad text is synchronized as you type, so that everyone viewing this page
sees the same text.
Remember that ANYBODY with the link can view this document.
If there's no real reason for semi-confidentiality, please add a link to this
