In non-PNG rendering, \sim is rendered as ~ or ∼ depending on whether it is
preceded by a blank space (or a letter) or not.
* <math>\sim</math> gives ˜
* <math> \sim</math> gives ∼
There's an even blatant case but it seems to happen only in Chinese Wikipedia:
<math>A/\sim</math> and <math>A/ \sim</math> gives different results.
