Administering a MediaWiki with 15+ extensions, it has become exceedingly
difficult to keep it's extensions up to date when an extension does not list a
version number. Unless there is an easier way I'm not aware of, it is the
primary indicator non-svn literate administrators can use to know if they need
to download a new version.
I propose that MediaWiki makes the 'version' field compulsory to improve the
life of all present and future wiki administrators, and perhaps change
SpecialPage:Version to more emphasise extension versions.
Additionaly, I'd ask that any extensions maintained by MediaWiki have a version
added (for example, Cite).
Better extension management in my opinion would go a long way to making
MediaWiki more attractive option to administrators.
