The Chinese Wiktionary would like to use the StringFunctions extension. The
community consensus is here:

(usually not many people there). This extension would greatly reduce the amount
of work needed in creating new articles, since many the transliteration and
pronunciation templates in use depend on the use of individual letters as
parameters of the template. This extension is already enabled at Vietnamese
Wiktionary (bugzilla:8886) and it's saved them a lot of work with the
Vietnamese pronunciation templates.
