@greg I just talked about this with @CCicalese_WMF again. The takeaway seems to be that this isn't needed for the MCR schema migration, but it blocks SDC deployment. The reason ist that with SDC (more specifically, with enabling the MediaInfo extension), Commons will have a unique configuration for which we should have a staging system on the production cluster, to avoid any surprised.
I'd want to see MediaInfo on test-commons first. But that's not the primary purpose of this. The primary purpose is having early warning when some train deployment breaks the unique setup that commons then has: It's (for now) the only wiki that uses a) slots other than the main slot and b) wikibase repo-to-repo federation.
