I would not say Høgnorsk is a variant of Nynorsk, they are both variants of Landsmål.
The older Landsmål evolved into Nynorsk, and a group insisted on continue using Landsmål, but renamed their variant Høgnorsk. They called Nynorsk for Flatmål, which can be taken as an insult in Norwegian, and claimed the names to be in accordance with Hochdeutsch and Plattdeutsch.
