The bot job is on hold for a couple of days to see where this goes. If this ticket gets stalled, I will continue as this is strictly seen not a problem with my bot or its job. Aside from that, some observations: - I do see these protection log entries on my English Wikipedia watchlist, but not on my German Wikipedia watchlist (same watchlist settings in my preferences as much as I am aware, same protected Wikidata item+connected articles that happen to be on both of my watchlists). - My bot does have a botflag on Wikidata and the protection log entries are being marked as "bot edit", but this does apparently not propagate through to my English Wikipedia watchlist where I cannot filter these log entries away with the "Human (not bot)" watchlist filter. This is different from regular bot edits at Wikidata whose bot marker does propagate to the English Wikipedia watchlist and makes those edits filter-able. I have to mention that we have barely used the "page protection" functionality at Wikidata (~10k protection actions since 2012, around 50% of them in two automated efforts; in other words: the organic page protection rate at Wikidata is at ~2/day or so). This has clearly never been an issue that has annoyed anyone. My bot task is going to protect another 20k+ items, and there will subsequently be weekly update runs for a couple of hundred new cases that qualify for protection. I can imagine that this could now continuously annoy some folks.
