The redirects are neither //good// nor //bad//, they're instead both necessary (although that necessity is waning) and insecure. We thought we had standardized on all canonical URIs being of the secure variant ~8 years ago, and this oversight has flown under the radar since then, only to be exposed recently when we intentionally (for unrelated operational reasons) partially degraded our port 80 services. I've made a new ticket, since that seems better all around. Let's move the rest of this discussion there.
