Ok so the real signal here is "don't use the servers in a datacenter where the query updater isn't running". I updated the task description. Can I take one step back and ask what are you using this max lag measure for, and how? I think there's a better way to obtain it from prometheus queries possibly than via adding more complexity to a script that is already too complex.
