Joe added a comment. Speaking with @ottomata, it seems that, contrarily to what I understood, this service would proxy connection to kafka only from producers and not from consumers.
If this is the case, my concerns about reliability and performance are way less important of course. I am unsure of the how we could secure the whole thing then, but I can take a look.
