alone the mailbox clogging is enough of a problem. every decent forum has the 
possibility to sign in for an email forward for threads, if you want you can 
get all threads that would be then your mailing list. that is in that way you 
could keep a mailing list (i.e. you have not more media) but every user can 
filter according to his or her interests.
