I have started https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Help:Modeling which is supposed to be a place where we index and discuss models used in Wikidata, and the problem of item classification is the first of all. There is also a home made classification of domain of applications of models, which is not inspired at all by GND, but I think is more useful.
