Simple queries are part of development plan and you can use it soon. But in the mean time you can use the queries in autolist (autolist has its own API)
for example: http://wdq.wmflabs.org/api?q=claim[107:215627]%20and%20claim[31:5] but I don't it can answer your question or not. if you want you can use P131 or P17 for your search: e.g. just to get cities in US: http://tools.wmflabs.org/wikidata-todo/autolist.html?q=CLAIM[31:515]_AND_CLAIM[17:30] P.S.
