Wayne,

OLiVer is a good test case for importing materials into WikiEducator. As we
grow, you're right that we need a method that itself is scalable, to itself
accommodate the future 'donation' of materials, and the 'migration' of other
communities who wish to align themselves with WE (WikiEducator)...

Ahh, I can see it now - "WE" is stronger than "I" or "They"..... :-)

Subject: [WikiEducator] Re: new curriculum project on WikiEducator

Hi Ryan,

I've spent a little time this morning getting to know the Oliver wiki
a little better.

There are a couple of neat ideas in your approach and structure, and
I'm sure that these will filter through and add value to WikiEducator.
WikiEducator is at the point of thinking about portal pages for
different levels of education and how best to structure content, eg
Library of Congress system etc.

Your experience here will be a great help as we think through the best
way to organise content in WIkiEd.

It would be possible to do a database dump and then import the pages
into WIkiEd - but this is better suited to very big database. I think
we're better off with a cut & paste approach. If you can find a
student who is willing to help we can look at organising a stipend or
honorarium for the task.

This is also a good opportunity to think about information design and
navigation of OLiVEr - now is the opportunity to fix those any of
those navigation decisions which have been niggling <smile>.

FLOSS4Edu has a rather nice hybrid based on WikiEducator's main page
and worth taking a look for ideas:
http://www.wikieducator.org/FLOSS4Edu

The OLPC SoCon project has also taken a few ideas from our site:

http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Summer_of_Content_2007

It would be great if we can get a country page for Uganda started -
see: http://www.wikieducator.org/Countries with a link to the OLiVer
project. I'll get in touch with some of our friends in Uganda and see
what we can do to encourage local community developing around OLiVer.

Cheers
Wayne
