Hi Leigh -

Yip this is a great idea!

In WIkiEd we already have folk who are interested in designing an
assignment for students where they are required to develop content as
part of their official course credits.

There is a WikiEducator who has actually trialled this approach over
at Wikia.com and wants to migrate the project over to WikiEd. My
thoughts are to develop free content resources to support educators in
integrating this kind of assignment into their formal teaching. It's a
fantastic concept.

The last 6 months have been extremely demanding for us trying to
support WIkiEd requests. Our growth has exceeded our existing capacity
to be responsive to community needs. This is a VERY good sign for a
wiki community. These are the early signs of a successful and
sustainable community.

Bottom line is that we need volunteer help - so I guess we need to
think about projects and ways to expand capacity to respond to
community needs. I'd appreciate thoughts from the community - I've
been thinking about a couple of potential projects, for example:

1) FTEs4Wikieducator - where organisations deriving benefit from
WIkiEducator commit FTE resources in supporting our collective aims -
for example, building in time for supporting WikiEd related work into
the performance review contracts of WIkiEducators.
2) Committing funding for technological innovation - there are a
number of smart mediawiki software refinements that we can implement
to radically advance free content development and reusability of
content in a wide variety of contexts. We already have a draft roadmap
from the Tectonic Shift Think Tank. All we need is a little funding to
pay the software developers <smile>.

I'd welcome suggestions as to how we can build our community - but
most importantly how do we scale up operations.

We're the pioneers - we can make this happen!

Cheers
Wayne
