Hi Leigh, I think it will be a while before the pdf generation can handle tags like the Kaltura widget. I have coded up a very quick template to see if I am understanding what you are interested in.
See Template:Kaltura and the test page. Pdf_testing_Kaltura When it is sent to the pdf export it replaces the Kaltura code with a manually supplied image and url. Let me know if this is of any use or if have other suggestions.
