Hello all,

I was at a CompSci developer meetup last night and while the majority of the
discussion was wonderfully geeky (and not something I'd want to bother you
educators with), there was one tool that jumped out.
Someone has developed a way to use mediawiki syntax (what we all use on WE
to make pages), to make slideshow presentations with it. Unfortunately, it's
currently a plugin to a coding development environment called Eclipse and
not in a form easily useful to educators. The description of the tool is in a
blog post <http://dev.eclipse.org/blogs/wayne/2009/01/20/eclipse-slideshow/>,
and there's a video demonstration of it in use
here<http://blip.tv/file/1684174/>
.

First, I'd like to gauge interest in having a tool like this available for
(wiki)educators. Are people comfortable with existing presentation tools?
Are there existing tools like this that I haven't run accross yet?

Second, there seems to be some similarity in roles/functionality of this
tool and the Download-to-PDF function. As such, I'd really like to gain a
better understanding of how the to-PDF extention on WE works. I've google a
couple terms, but have only come up with instructions for installing the
extention into wikis, and nothing on how it's built. Who would I talk to to
find out more about the to-PDF extention?

Finally, to those people who I've been discussing the Google Summer of
Code<http://code.google.com/soc/>program with: The guy who built the
Eclipse plugin is a strong supporter of
the program and has acted as a mentor for several students in the past. I'm
definitely interested in turning some sort of collaboration between these
two projects into a GSoC project. I've sent an email to the Eclipse plugin
developer.

Thoughts?
