This sort of Javascript solution only applies to the individual's view. (It really is very much like how you can use Greasemonkey to customize your web views in general.) For the general user's view, I think templating is probably the most general solution. Using a template on a page (and its subpages) or throughout a project can add a distinctive look or convenience links.
