Hi Everyone, Since the inception of our Learning4Content training initiative, WikEducator has implemented a community certification system which is now a de facto practice. It was designed to acknowledge your achievements and provide opportunities to earn community kudos. See:
http://wikieducator.org/WikiMaster AN INVITATION TO UPDATE YOUR CERTIFICATION As an optional certification system, all WikiEducators are free to apply for certification. If you meet the specified output criteria for the level concerned -- you are free to apply for certification. We're in the process of updating our baseline data on Certified WikiEducators. To date 1024 WikiEducators have achieved certifications of different levels (which represents about 30% of the educators trained under the Learning4Content training initiative.) An impressive achievement if you take the 1% rule usually cited to predict active wiki participation. Applying for certification is easy -- just follow the instructions here: http://wikieducator.org/WikiMaster#Applying_for_certification WE NEED YOUR FEEDBACK ON THE PROPOSED CRITERIA FOR THE WIKITRAINER CERTIFICATION WE do not have any members certified at the level of WikiTrainer. WE made a decision not to develop the criteria for WikiTrainer certification until the community had more experience in running training events around the world. Having presented more than 80 Learning4Content workshops we now have a cadre of experienced facilitators and the advantage of hindsight to take an informed decision on the output requirements and specifications for the WikiTrainer certification. The draft criteria are based on three important foundations: 1. The WikiTrainer certification is not intended to be a gate-keeping mechanism. Anyone in WikiEducator should be free to run training workshops using our materials. In other words you don't need a WikiTrainer certification to run your own workshops! Our vision and mission is to share knowledge freely and it would be sad if an optional certification system were to evolve into an elitist club and policing mechanism. The WikiTraining certification is intended as a community acknowledgment of service and skills, with a concrete commitment to ongoing service and support. 2. The criteria should be reasonable and achievable --- The certification should be a motivation for prospective trainers to say -- Hey -- I can achieve that goal and community kudos! 3. The outputs should be measurable and easily assessed otherwise we won't be able to apply the certification. We invite your feedback on the proposed criteria for the level of WikiTrainer. Please post your thoughts on the corresponding talk page: http://wikieducator.org/Talk:WikiMaster/WikiTrainer On 15 Feb 2008 -- WE proposed a draft policy for skills certification on the main list, which has not yet been approved as an official policy - see: http://groups.google.co.nz/group/wikieducator/browse_thread/thread/f9497e5f8b9571ad# However, due to popular use, the community have adopted the procedures as a de facto practice and it seems appropriate that we should prepare and refine the draft policy for approval by Council at the next meeting scheduled for early September 2009. Please feel free to comment on the draft policy for skills certification as well: http://wikieducator.org/WikiEducator_talk:Policy_for_skills_Certification We'll see you in the wiki :-) Cheers Wayne -- Wayne Mackintosh, Ph.D. Director, International Centre for Open Education, Otago Polytechnic, New Zealand.
