Dear Gita, Sarita Kumar and Seema Makhija, Kudos to all three of you on being awarded as 'Distinguished Teachers' among Delhi University College teachers on the occasion of Teachers day -
*In India 5th September is celebrated as Teachers' day. 5th September is the birthday of a great teacher Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. When Dr. Radhakrishnan became the president of India in 1962, some of his students and friends approached him and requested him to allow them to celebrate 5th September, his "birthday". In reply, Dr, Radhakrishnan said, "instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it would be my proud privilege if September 5 is observed as Teachers' day". The request showed Dr.Radhakrishnan's love for the teaching profession. From then onwards, the day has been observed as Teachers' Day in India. ** *Please see* http://hn.wikieducator.org/Acharya_Narendra_Dev_College *for group pic as well as that of Sarita Kumar. In the group pic can you spot Gita, Sarita and Seema?? :) For the first time ever University of Delhi (traditionally school teachers have been awarded on this day each year) decided to honour undergraduate teachers on the occasion. 90 teachers across 29 colleges (there are 63 colleges in DU - in some colleges nobody made the grade) and 13 subjects were honoured. The awards were based on student perception only - feed back was taken on the undergraduate teachers from First year Post graduate students. I am proud that Acharya Narendra Dev College has three awardees - this is a good number considering that ours is a relatively young college. Of the three Sarita Kumar (User:Saritasanjay), Seema Makhija ( User:Makhija.seema) are Wikieducators (M.S. Rajeswari is the third).
