The sad state of affairs is that many who interact with primary and
secondary school educators, from textbook publishers with their
“bibles” to school administrators whose obsession with national exams
seriously believe in the “common orthodox method” is the only way to
go. If this path of least resistance adopted by many primary and
secondary school educators can be broken, “creative, novel and
experimental” approaches can become a reality.

Primary and secondary school educators in their undergraduate
education course(s) need to develop confidence in subject matter,
and an understanding of primary and secondary school classroom
dynamics. What better time for future educators to learn them, then
just after being an active part of that environment. Activities like
“Determine the content (what is to be learned), especially vocabulary,
by participatory methods. The source of what words to put in the list
to be learned should come from the trainees.( from your WHY
PARTICIPATORY LITERACY? http://www.scn.org/cmp/modules/lit-why.htm )”
are very helpful in building confidence. Content in primary and/or
secondary school subject materials does not consist of an infinite
number of terms. A good grasp of what makes up the present state of
mathematics, science, language arts or any subject areas on the
primary and/or secondary school level is a vocabulary of at most
1,000 terms each. Exploring one of the subject areas in this way
builds understanding.

Group dynamics needs to be addressed especially with the high mobility
of the world's populations. The linguistic, economic and social
environmental backgrounds of any group or community of learners
needs to be take into consideration before any new “creative, novel
and experimental” approaches can be used.

Having worked in both educational and non-educational fields, I have
noticed that the most successful people are those with information
and an understanding of how groups they work with will receive it.
