Hi Everyone - Wow, WE are on the verge of achieving 14,000 registered users! This is a great achievement considering that 2/3rds of new users have never created a wiki account prior to joining the WikiEducator family. WE can stand proud in hosting the world's largest attempt to build wiki skills in the formal education sector through our Learning4Content project. To date, approximately 4,000 educators from more than 120 countries around the world have had the opportunity to experience OUR gift of knowledge. WE are a contemporary example of the Chinese proverb: "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime" (see: http://www.quotationspage.com/quote/2279.html).
Sadly, when it comes to education, 4 billion of the world's 6 billion people are undeserved :-(. WE believe that OER can make a difference :-). I think that supporting educators in "learning to fish" in the OER world can make a real difference. Notwithstanding WikiEducator's impressive achievements to date, WE need to scale-up capacity development by an order of magnitude for all teachers, lecturers and trainers to participate feely in developing digital content resources in support of all national curricula by 2015. In collaboration with the free culture movement -- WE will achieve this objective. In February this year, I posted an invitation to our Community to help us in planning our public giving campaign. Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far. I also appreciate all the advice and recommendations sent through via personal emails. WE have made significant progress behind the scenes in getting ready for our public giving campaign. - The OER Foundation is officially registered as an educational charity - We have approved a donor and contributing member privacy policy - We have officially adopted the international Donor Bill of Rights - We are developing the back-end technologies to support our giving campaign - We have developed a draft banner for our giving campaign So WE're almost ready to make history again -- launching our first public giving campaign. However, we still need your help in planning and implementing a successful campaign. WE need your help with: - Developing a number of strap lines for our donation campaign - The creation of alternate visual banners for our campaign - Ideas, strategies and support to get the word out during our proposed campaign - Identifying the FAQs and their answers - Advice and feedback from the community with prior experience of donation campaigns etc. - Other ideas? Please visit our our donation planning page and help us make OER futures happen: http://wikieducator.org/OERF:Donation_planning WE plan to commence our first phase of public giving during June 2010. Together we can achieve far more than working alone. All help and guidance is gladly received.
