Don,

I think Canada is uniquely positioned to establish a global leadership role
in the implementation of the OERu concept. Canda's two leading open
distance learning universities (Athabasca U and Thomson Rivers U) and
BCcampus who have hands on experience in open education models are founding
anchor partners of OERTen. This bodes well for building on the successes of
the past.

Clearly we need to do more work in K12. Perhaps a global network drawing on
the model implemented by the *Open High School of Utah which is an online
school using OER. There was some discussion at the anchor partner meeting
to think about how the OERu might extend the model for K12 learners. For
example:*
*
*
*Tertiary study preparation programs. *
*
*
* David Bull from the University of Southern Queensland's Open Access
College <http://www.usq.edu.au/oac/programs> indicated keen interest to
incorporate these programs into the OERu network. The Open Polytechnic in
New Zealand also offers a Certificate in Tertiary
Studies<http://www.openpolytechnic.ac.nz/subjects-and-courses/op4240-certificate-in-tertiary-study-skills-level-4/>
-- so this is definitely worth exploring further as the OERu model matures.
*

*Community College / Uni credit for senior high school learners*
*
*
In new Zealand we have something called
"STAR<http://www.otagopolytechnic.ac.nz/fileadmin/DepartmentalResources/Academic/Art/Programmes/2011_STAR_Booklet.pdf>"
programs where senior high school learners can take community college
courses for credit. These credits are mapped to the national qualifications
authority. I'm also interested in exploring these options for future OERu
offerings.
