I was planning on writing up a brief summary of significant developments in
the open education space for 2011. It has been a quantum shift year
preparing the foundations for the mainstream adoption of OER and OEP in the
formal education sector.

I couldn't do a better job than Paul Stacey's "2011 The Year of
Open<http://edtechfrontier.com/2011/12/21/2011-the-year-of-open/>"
-- Paul, we agree -- it has been a year of open.

True to the traditions of reuse in our open world -- I prefer to reuse
Paul's well-founded and inclusive summary of open accomplishments for the
year. Important reading for the holidays.

A few years ago, we would have been hard pressed to find a reasonable list
of worthy open exemplars. Today, we are faced with the challenges in
deciding what to leave out. That's a nice place to be.

Well done open education!

Bring on 2012 so we can start providing free learning opportunities for all
students worldwide.
