The DEHub convened an OER national symposium<http://www.dehub.edu.au/open-educational-resources-oer-national-symposium/>in Australia on 31 August 2012 in Sydney.
The OERu was a featured presentation at the national symposium and provided the opportunity to profile the leadership of our anchor partner members to colleagues in Australia. This was also an opportunity to publicly announce our first UK-based partner, the University of Glamorgan. I also had the privilege of visiting the University of Wollongong, one of our anchor partners located close to Sydney to participate in the Open UOW Forum <http://media.uow.edu.au/news/UOW132906.html> and to meet with academics and support staff at the University who are planning open courses for the OERu. The University of Wollongong's commitment to social inclusion is palpable and it is refreshing to see how a leading research University will be using open education approaches in realizing its community service mission. Deserving particular mention is the 2012 strategic plan for eLearning at the University of Wollongong. The first action specified under the goal "*Openly connected*" in the strategy reads as follows: "In partnership with OERuni, contribute to the world's first open online degree." UOW is a significant partner in the OERu supporting our network in achieving it's mission to provide more affordable education opportunities for learners excluded from the formal sector.
