It directly queries the mirrored databases from Commons. I don't know
about the replication lag between the WM servers and the toolserver,
but i guess it's pretty fast.

I don't think you can enter iframes in WP pages, but you might be able
to use the Javascript (which could be simpler then, because you can
use jQuery).
