We have considered using an already existing responsive theme in
general, without any specific examples (option #2 in the Bugzilla bug);
I guess that those two templates might be good starting points (our
currently theme is based on the Twenty Ten ten, too) — so if you are
interested in helping us, or know someone who is, feel free :-)
