Congratulations Lodewijk and team for transitioning leadership! This project has been so successful for so long, that its hard to imagine a Wikimedia Movement without it -- but that makes a leadership transition even harder -- lots of expectations, and lots of momentum that is sometimes hard to manage.
This is a really hard process, to transition institutional memory and leadership on such a large project -- let me know if there is anything the WMF campaigns team can do to help think through the process.
