If you want to go the Canadian route you would still first need a visa
into Canada, and one thing to remember is that Canada's network of
consular offices is smaller than that of the US. Canadian practice has
been to have an embassy in one country also be accredited to several
other countries. If the ultimate destination for your trip is in the US
you may need the US visa before you can enter Canada.
