You can do that with the “Event Coordinator” rights. You can apply here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_permissions/Event_coordinator or ask any admin to give you the rights. One thing you can do with Event Coordinator rights is give other uses “Confirmed” status. At the beginning of an edit-a-thon I pass around a sign-up sheet and have everyone write down their username, then when I have time I make them all Confirmed. That makes things go more smoothly for them.
