Hi Mohamed,

Great question. When we choose the languages for translation, we use a
variety of factors—traffic to the wikis, covering the official United
Nations languages, the languages into which we’ve translated the policy in
the past, and geographic diversity. We expanded the languages into which we
provided translations of the Privacy policy with this update, and we plan
to continue that expansion in future.

As for the text of the translated policies, we want to make sure that the
translations accurately reproduce the original English version. We include
a note in the policies that the English version of the policy controls if
there are any issues with translations—that way, if some nuance is lost or
added during the process of translation, it’s clear which meaning we
intended, and which will be acted upon.

We also know that we will not catch every nuance, and this is why we’re
happy to get feedback from staffers and members of the communities who are
familiar with languages besides English. In the past, we have made
adjustments when someone has noticed that a translation may not entirely
capture the meaning of the English original.

Best,

Aeryn
