**Title:** Call for an investigation into and appropriate action regarding the
sexual harassment experienced by a Wikimania participant
Dear Wikimania COT, StC and WMF Trust and Safety, and fellow Wikimedians:
First of all, we would like to express our gratitude for all your hard work in
organising this wikimania conference for Wikimedians from around the world. We
hope to gain valuable experience and useful information from this Wikimania
conference, which we can then share with our community in future. However,
we(Wikimedia Korea) are deeply disappointed to hear that a number of
unfortunate incidents continue to be reported at this year’s Wikimania in Paris.
Several key activists from Wikimedia Korea took part in this event. I had hoped
that our participants would return from this event—which brings together
Wikimedians from around the world—having gained a range of valuable
experiences, and that they would continue their activities with even greater
vigour. However, today I heard that one of our members whilst offering
well-intentioned assistance to another participant, was instead subjected to
unwanted, forced physical contact and sexual harassment. We find this deeply
regrettable and are also deeply dismayed.
We understand that the victim immediately brought this matter to your
attention. We ask that you thoroughly verify the circumstances surrounding the
incident and then inform us of the investigation process and its results
through our association’s official channels. We also request that you implement
measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future to ensure the
safe conduct of future events. In particular, please inform us of the
appropriate actions taken against the perpetrator and implement additional
measures to promote mutual respect and safety during the event.
While we understand that the event organizers did not anticipate such an
incident, properly addressing and disclosing the details of what happened will
be the first step toward preventing a recurrence.
Sincirencely,
July 26, 2026
