Hello everyone, We'd like to invite you to participate in a community consultation about the future of the Wikimedia Hackathon <https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Hackathon>.
For more than a decade, the Wikimedia Hackathon has brought technical contributors from around the world together to collaborate, learn, and build connections. While this annual global event has been successful in supporting our technical community, we want to explore whether a different model could make these opportunities more accessible and help strengthen technical communities in different regions. We're proposing a model that combines a global Wikimedia Hackathon every three years with regional hackathons in the intervening years. We recognize that this model would introduce important trade-offs. We have opened this consultation to better understand these trade-offs and to hear directly from the community about whether such a change (or a different one) would be welcomed.
