Hello everyone, I would like to share a small tool I built called Wiki DYK Share Tool.(Sorry about cross-posting.) It helps anyone turn a fact from a Wikipedia or other Wikimedia page into a good-looking image for social media in about a minute, with no design skills needed.
*Try it here:* https://wiki-dyk.toolforge.org/ The story behind it is in my Diff post: https://diff.wikimedia.org/2026/10/30/from-wikipedia-to-the-wikimedia-movement-making-free-knowledge-easier-to-share/ *Why we need it* Fewer people are visiting Wikipedia directly, as answers move to AI summaries and attention moves to social video. Volunteers, user groups, affiliates and campaign organizers can help by sharing facts where people already spend their time. But making one good-looking post takes a lot of effort if you are not a designer, and many great facts never get shared. This tool is meant to remove that barrier. *How it works* 1. Paste a link to any Wikipedia article, or a page on Meta-Wiki, Wikidata or Commons. 2. Select a sentence. It appears in a box you can edit. 3. Pick a background from the page's own images. 4. Download the image, or share it with the caption already written. *Features* - Works with Wikipedia in any language. Links in non-Latin scripts appear readable, not as long percent codes. - Mobile friendly: it works well on phones, and on a phone you can share the image and caption in one tap. - Copyright information for the image you used is added automatically. The tool looks up the author and licence on Commons and shows it on the image and in the caption, for example "Image © Author name, CC BY-SA 4.0". You can edit or switch it off. - Ready sizes for Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram feed posts, and Story/Status images for Instagram, WhatsApp and Telegram, plus square images for chats. - Choose where the text sits and which corner holds the QR code, so the best part of the photo stays visible. - Suggested hashtags from the article title and categories, plus your own. - A QR code and link back to the article on every image. - High quality export, and your settings are remembered in your browser. *Check it out: * https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Dyk_Tooth_decay_poster.png *About Wiki's Lazy Coders*This tool is part of Wiki's Lazy Coders, a volunteer community that builds lightweight tools, web pages and scripts to make routine Wikimedia work quicker and easier. The idea is simple: if you are doing something by hand again and again, build a tool so the next person does not have to. You can learn more and join us here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikis_Lazy_Coders *A few honest notes*The credit is fetched automatically, but please take a quick look at it before you share, because the details come from the file page and can occasionally be incomplete. WhatsApp, Instagram and X often ignore captions sent with an image, so the tool copies the caption for you to paste. There is always room to improve, and the tool is MIT licensed. I would love your feedback, especially from people running campaigns and from communities working in languages that are poorly served by existing tools. Please tell me what is missing or confusing, or reach me through my Meta page: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Suyash.dwivedi Thank you, Suyash Dwivedi (User:Suyash.dwivedi) Wiki's Lazy Coders https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Suyash.dwivedi *Best Regards,* [image: File:Affiliations Committee logo black.svg] *Suyash Dwivedi *(He/Him/His) *Member**:* Wikimedia Affiliations Committee <https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Affiliations_Committee> (AffCom) *Vice-Chair**:* Commons Photographers User Group <https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Commons_Photographers_User_Group> (CPUG) https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikis_Lazy_Coders (UTC+05:30) *Telegram:* dwivedi_suyash <https://t.me/dwivedi_suyash> *"Imagine a world in which every single person on the planet is given free access to the sum of all human knowledge.
