Hi folks, I think this is a really well written and well researched article on some of the challenges with establishing consensus on politically charged topics, the dangers of doxing editors, and the possible capabilities of malicious actors with access to data brokers/online profiling data.
It certainly makes me wonder, do any of the tools I build or use that "vacuum up" Wikipedia data (via APIs and other means) make it possible for these threats to exist? It also makes me reflect on discussions around expiring Quarry query results. A major stated goal was to protect editor privacy, but there was pushback from technical editors along the lines of "this inconveniences me" and "someone could just get the data another way". Would love to discuss. Cheers, -Travis https://slate.com/technology/2025/02/wikipedia-project-2025-heritage-foundation-doxing-editors-antisemitism.html
