Dear All,

Jen B. and I just got back from Berlin and the Wikimedia Chapters
Conference, where we represented WMNYC. I am extremely grateful for this
opportunity, and want to share as much as I learned (which was a lot!) from
the conference with the rest of the chapter. I hope that at the next
all-NYC-chapter meeting we can do a short presentation including some of
our finding from the conference.

First off, the official notes for all the presentations during the
conference are available on Meta:

I have also uploaded rough notes from the sessions I attended on blogger:

*Some other things:*

I was impressed at the strategic planning that many other Chapters
undertake to keep themselves organized. Many Chapters emphasized their
discussions of long and short term goals, project reporting and assessment
standards, and development of an annual plan. I think a conversation about
these things would be immensely helpful for us as a Chapter and would allow
us to develop better strategies for applying for grants and managing them.
I was especially impressed with how many chapters have paid staff and/or
office space, and paid developers working on Wiki projects. The WM
Deutschland office has a staff of 10-15! Something to consider as we have
conversations about our goals as a group...

GLAM-Wiki Toolset:
I have been trying to figure this project out for a while and just
discovered that it is still in Beta, and still having some tech problems
during its initial launch. In the meantime, find updates here:
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:GLAMwiki_Toolset_Project and talk
to me if you want details.

Wikimaps is an especially intriguing project for me:

Talking with some folks working on the project, I will be trying to connect
with NYPL Labs to have a WikiMaps hack-a-thon there. More details in the
future!

Please reach out to me or Jen if you have any other questions about the
Conference! It really got us excited for WikiConUSA!

Cheers,
Dorothy Howard
