Most of my issues with the Visual Editor (as an experienced markup,
cite, and general template editor) have already been mentioned, but I
should mention I found (admittedly only for one of my first edits a
couple of weeks ago) that the Visual Editor touched many other
templates (IIRC it modified date formats) similar to what may happen
when you use AWB. (If I /was/ using AWB, I'd have probably been happy
with the changes.)

In my case I noticed because the check your changes featured worked
and noted all the changes that would have occurred. I cancelled the
change and made the one sentence change using the markup editor that
on its own would have been fine to use the Visual Editor for.

BTW My preference for a fix for the Visual Editor is to always allow
markup text, preferably using a selection tool that toggles everything
in the selection between markup that would be saved as (escaped) text
and visual elements ("executed markup").

This is especially the case within the Reference editor, so that you
can easily copy existing references from other pages.

As others have said, this really wasn't ready to go live for anything
but simple edits, but as someone who does effectively use the release
early option for /some/ of my own coding (but not often for a FIRST
public release) I do see they had their reasons.

I don't envy our trainers though... I'd hope the WMF have prepared
something to somehow to help training new users during this transition
period.
