The host server is down and has been since the weekend. This affects our website and email to wikimedia.org.au addresses. As is so often the case with these things, it looked like a temporary hiccup initially, then something that should have been fixed within a day, then ...
The committee is well-aware of the situation but we don't run the host, so we are dependent on others. We may have to move to an alternate host if the problems with the present host aren't resolved quickly. I note we have been using the present host for some years without problems, so this situation is somewhat unexpected. So in relation to the Camera grants, yes, use the Google cache for the moment, but note that sending an email to the committee email address to request support under the scheme will not work at this time. But feel free to email my personal email and I will forward it on to the committee as an interim solution. I note that the incoming committee exchanged personal contact details as a risk management protocol; it turns out that this little piece of risk management has been justified as the committee are in contact despite the loss of the server. It is fair to say the situation is frustrating but not life-threatening and hopefully normal service will soon be resumed. Kerry _____ From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Russavia Sent: Tuesday, 18 November 2014 10:56 AM To: Wikimedia Australia Chapter Subject: [Wikimediaau-l] wikimedia.org.au down? I am wanting to show a prominent photographer whose work we host on Commons and use widely across Wikipedia projects information on the camera equipment grants, but it would appear that wikimedia.org.au is down, and has been for at least the last 12 hours. I don't want to show them the information that we need so that I can help them apply for the grant via Google cache; that would be embarrassing. Can we get an update on when the site will be available again please. Thanks. Russavia P.S. It would appear I am on moderation on this list, it's about time that this moderation is removed so that I can freely engage in discussion and not have to rely on David Gerard approving messages, thereby delaying things that will become timely in the near future if things I am working on come to fruition.
